100 Holes a great success

One hundred holes of golf in one day isn’t easy, but my friend Gavin and I did it in 11 hours on April 27. We started at 7 a.m. and enjoyed beautiful weather.

I actually wore my rain pants the first nine holes because it was cool. We really didn’t sweat all day. In a previous year, we had to stop mid-day and take a shower.

Oak Knoll is the perfect place to play 100 holes in one day. It’s a relatively short course, and my members were very supportive of the event, allowing us to play through and making donations. Between my members and some family and friends, we raised about $2,750.

People get excited about this event because we are committed, and all donations go to the charity. Donors are impressed with the endurance and dedication it takes to play 100 holes in one day. Options is a local organization that helps people with disabilities live and work in the community.

At the end of the day, we averaged one hour per nine holes. To get to 100, we played the front side six times and the back five. That’s 11 nine-hole rounds, which is 99 holes. Par on the front and the back at Oak Knoll is 36, which would put par for 99 holes at 396. We finished with the 10th hole on the course, which is a par four, making par for the day an even 400.

Other than allowing the occasional “gimmie putt,” we finished every hole and are proud of our totals of 390 (me) and 396 (Gavin), despite how sloppy our swings became as the day wore on.
